Skyler was born in California and raised in a rural farming community. At a young age, he was obsessed with world history, a love that eventually morphed into a love of historical and science fiction. After high school, he found himself at the fire department, where he applied to volunteer in early 2009. Skyler obtained his EMT license and was hired as a seasonal firefighter. During this time in his early 20’s, Skyler worked full-time on a ranch, operating heavy equipment, herding sheep, and building fences.
In 2015, Skyler moved on from ranch work and started working on a 911 emergency ambulance near his hometown. He left the fire department in 2019 and remained on the ambulance until the end of 2021, when he transferred to a larger city where he works for the same company.
Skyler tried and failed at writing in his late teens and early 20’s. Disappointed and disheartened, he gave up writing and even stopped reading books for a time. Now in his 30’s and weary from long years responding to people’s worst days and seeing death in many forms, Skyler returned to the written word and promptly wrote an entire manuscript. It wasn’t worthy of the dingiest trash bins. Yet, two characters, Kael and Auctor, were something special. Skyler focused his attention on writing their story, letting them unfold the events of their lives, and two years later, The Shattered Star was born.
